What is the Ballet of Lights?
Imagine one of your favorite childhood fairytales, Sleeping Beauty, finding their purpose on stage once again. At Ballet of Lights in Nashville, these tales come alive under dazzling costumes and cutting-edge light design. Condensed into a one-hour show, rather than the traditional three, five to six dancers move through color and boundless imagination beneath a canopy of luminous storytelling.
Ballet of Lights in Nashville: Which story is being performed now?
Ballet of Lights in Nashville reimagines three different stories, each in the space of about 60 minutes – suited for anyone over 5 years old. Whilst Sleeping Beauty is on the current line-up, new tales are on a constant return.
Sleeping Beauty
Few stories feel as made for ballet as Sleeping Beauty. It’s dreamlike, otherworldly, and rich with enchantment. Though its roots reach back to a 14th-century French tale and a Catalan poem, it was Charles Perrault’s version that first cast its spell over readers. The Brothers Grimm followed with Little Briar Rose, and by the time Planché and Doyle gave it their bestselling twist in 1865, the tale had found its forever form. Set to the sweeping magic of Tchaikovsky’s 1889 score, the Ballet of Lights brings this classic to life with glowing costumes and luminous storytelling that shimmer as much as the dream itself.
Presented on selected dates at the beautiful Franklin Theatre, Ballet of Lights in Nashville invites audiences of 5 and above to experience classic tales like never before. With each performance, timeless stories are reawakened through light, movement, and imagination. Where tradition meets technology, magic feels all too real once again.
